[NMCycling] 2015 cross series director, found

Hello New Mexico Cycling Community,

My name is David Saenz and I serve as the Activities and Events Developer
at Glorieta Camps in Glorieta, NM. Some of you may know me from the CX
races I have promoted, the XTERRA I assisted the CORE Crew with, or the
Enduro I promoted recently in May. If you have attended one or more of my
events then I hope you will have recognized that I have the very best
interests in mind for the cycling community as a whole in New Mexico, the
USA, and internationally. Though I have only been in New Mexico for two
years, I have met some incredible people and am very fortunate to call many
of you my friends. I will admit that I have not made my way to any road
races yet but the CX and MTB races have been a joy!

In March, I was approached by Antonia DeHorney and John Verheul to take
over the state cyclocross series and I was surprised but also honored that
I would be considered for the position by two people I respect a great deal
in cycling. After some consideration and some life changes, I decided to
accept the position but wanted to act as the interim director. I believe I
am a great solution for transition because I am not the long term solution.
I will be moving my family in November but this does not stop me from
believing that I can make a very positive impact on the cycling community
with my position as Interim Director and ensuring that the series gets
passed on to dedicated and ambitious hands.

I will bring to the table the fact that the transition was not immediately
announced as there are many political layers in New Mexico Cycling that I
am not familiarized with. We recognize now that our transition plan was not
as polished or thorough as we had hoped, evidenced by the recent emails
flying around, and for that I apologize.

As with all businesses, communication has been a struggle during this
transition of leadership and many people were left out of conversations
that I now know deserved to be involved. I apologize for the lack of
communication and the terrible oversights that have occurred because I
underestimated the complexity of this transition. I hope that every one now
feels that the line of communication has been torn wide open because I want
input from people on how to make the series better, if you want to be part
of the series on any level, and/or if you believe you are a good fit to
take over the series for the long term.

If you are currently a race director and part of the series, please know
that the series will continue on and that your involvement is greatly
appreciated! Though we have set a calendar, please know that I am asking
for your flexibility during this time of transition so that we may host the
best cyclocross series possible.

As of right now, considering the circumstances, I must consider the
calendar tentative as we seek to improve the series and give equal
opportunity to the entire community of race directors.

If you are a race director and wish to be part of the series, please
contact me with your contact information, possible dates, your venue, and a
vision for your race.

My vision for the series is to increase community involvement by empowering
race directors to host experiences for the racers and attendants instead of
simply 30 minute races. I am not saying that no one is doing this already
but I would love to see more of it happen and to bring cyclocross back to
the full cultural experience that everyone enjoys!

I am simply here as the Interim Director to ensure that the series is
passed on in a manner that promotes perpetuity and sustainability for all
