*Fellow Albuquerque residents,*
Today, I declared a local public health emergency due to the novel
coronavirus, joining dozens of states and local governments, including the
City of Rio Rancho and Bernalillo County, to dedicate additional resources
for our response to an outbreak that the World Health Organization has
formally designated as a global pandemic.

This emergency declaration allows the City to allocate funds for the
coronavirus response and request additional resources from the state and
federal government. This declaration does *not*:
• Limit the sale or transfer of firearms
• Prohibit the sale of liquor
• Close streets
• Declare a curfew
Yesterday, we convened a series of virtual meetings with public safety
officials, business leaders and the Volunteers Advisory Board to discuss
the impacts on this public health emergency on Albuquerque.
The best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 is to practice proactive social
distancing. it is crucial that people avoid large gatherings, stay home if
possible, and order food from restaurants to-go.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the flu, with fever, coughing, and
trouble breathing. The City is urging those who believe they are
experiencing symptoms to call the New Mexico Department of Health hotline
at 1-855-600-3453.
The latest information on City facilities, programs and events will be
continuously updated on our website

.
We are a strong and resilient community and I know that we will get through
this challenge together, as One Albuquerque.

All across the state, New Mexicans are stepping up to do what is right for
the community--from supporting our small business, to suspending utility
disconnections. Here's what is being done in Albuquerque and throughout New

Utilizing city related foundations to help public safety and most

As federal, state and local governments respond to the coronavirus, many
Albuquerque residents are asking how they can help. While many in-person
volunteer opportunities are suspended due to social distancing, there are
still ways to make a difference. This coming week, Mayor Keller will be
virtually convening the City’s Volunteers Advisory Board to help coordinate
efforts and City-related foundations will be distributing money to critical
programs.
