[Neighbors] Closures

We have a tendency to blame ART, covid, parking, homeless (yada, yada, yada) for the empty spaces on Central, but maybe it's greedy landlords charging high rents, bad business plans, undercapitalized businesses, or a multitude of other reasons.
Or, to quote Pogo, "We have met the enemy and they is us."
Before moving to Nob Hill, I remarked to an acquaintance about the empty storefronts where I lived at the time.  His response -- "did you ever shop there?"  That shut me up.
How many of us look at items in a brick and mortar store, then order that item online from Amazon or someone else at a slightly lower price?
Coronado and Uptown ABQ are reasonably full, but Cottonwood has tons of empty spaces and multiple strip malls around town are ghost towns.  I saw a study a while back showing that the US has way more retail space per capita than other countries.  The retail shakeout isn't limited to Nob Hill or ABQ in general
The moral -- shop local.

Agreed! ART has not seemed to have had any positive impact at all - for patrons or businesses.

This is likely not a helpful thought (what could be done?) ~

I have to wonder if the ART is having a negative impact.

It was supposed to make Central more walkable. Unfortunately, it's made crossing streets extremely challenging. Its also made getting to a business by car beyond ridiculous, requiring driving multiple blocks past and hoping to make a U-turn or looping around on side streets.

Again, I don't know what could be done ... other than push for breaking out the ART curbs to reestablish intersections. Might be smart to ask our businesses what they think.

Soon even the bars will all be gone. Slice Parlor is done as well. Already closed.
