On Thursday May 2, the Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) led another
trail session in support of the Sandia Ranger District (SRD) Cienega/Armijo
Trails Improvement Project (CATIP). The session focused on reroutes of
Armijo Trail, #222, to move the trail out of the bottom of the canyon
drainage. *CATIP is now approximately 62% complete. *

Reroutes were completed on three sections of Armijo Trail #222. The Berman
Bunch turned out a dozen volunteers strongly reinforced by four Sandia
Ranger District personnel. The 12 volunteers were Don Carnicom, Eric
Russell, Jenny Blackmore, Mark Grazier, Byron Garner, Lorna Morrow, Phil
Cromer, Pat Madden, Jim Houle, Cleve Sharp, and Betsy and Bob Galloway.
Directing the crew was Russell Berman, Cibola National Forest and
Grasslands Trails Resource Assistant. The crew of 16 trail workers finished
the planned tasks, including installing a trail sign provided by REI at a
trail junction. The weather was perfect and Armijo Canyon is a beautiful
area to work in.
