Hello Everyone:
Yesterday, Monday, April 18, 2022, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew set out to remove previously reported fallen trees from Survey, Survey Extension and Ellis trails. However, as is so often the case Mother Nature had other plans. While some needed work on Survey was completed, the prospect of spending the day digging fallen trees out of the grasp of deep, icy, packed snow before they could be cut did not seem to be the logical thing to do. So, routine trail maintenance work at the higher elevations will likely be deferred until more snowmelt occurs. Yesterday's hike was an out-and-back. The Survey Extension and Ellis work will be completed later.
In addition to the work described in the attachment, a 6-inch diameter trunk section and a 5-inch diameter windfall tree were dug out as needed and removed from the trail. According to previous reports, on January 10 and January 17, 2022, FOSM crews removed a total of 29 fallen trees from Survey Trail and at that time it was clear to the 10K junction. Cut logs and ample sawdust along the trail provided evidence of those efforts.
The day was mostly clear with occasional clouds. The air was brisk, particularly when the breeze picked up, but the sun provided some welcome warmth.
Yesterday's crew consisted of Byron Garner, Jerry Pekarek, Rav Nicholson, David McCreery, Cleve Sharp, Jamey Browning and Bob Lowder.
Please see attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Jamey Browning.
