[Volunteers_fosm] Trail Work Report For Monday, February 12,2024

Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, February 12, 2024, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked a portion of Crest Trail 130 South to remove a previously reported large broken Oak branch hanging over the trail  near the Travertine Falls junction and two fallen trees located about three-quarters of a mile above the Lower Faulty junction. The two fallen trees were only about one-hundred feet apart, so the crew could divide into two groups to do the work and share tools if needed. The trees were about eleven/twelve inches in diameter with many branches on the top ends. Both were blocking the trail. Some of their upper branches were buried in snow. All three obstacles were cleared using Silky-type saws and other hand tools. Based upon yesterday's work and a previous trail report, Crest Trail 130 South should now be clear from the trailhead at Canyon Estates to the junction with Upper Faulty.

The day was clear with only an occasional light breeze. Typical spring-like conditions prevailed. The trail tread consisted of mud, patches of snow, areas of ice and packed snow higher up the trail, particularly in shaded areas. Use of traction devices was required along the entire length of the trail hiked that day. There were no areas that could be described as dry.

Yesterday's crew consisted of Jamey Browning, John Cooper, Susan Gregory, Sim Cook, David McCreery, Ken Wilson, Paul Karas, Bill Perkins and Bob Lowder.
